Psychosis & Bipolar Disorder

How Ancient Viral DNA Influences Susceptibility

Mental health conditions that have a genetic component include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depression. These conditions are complex and multifaceted, often influenced by a combination of genetic, environmental, and social factors. Our study aims to uncover how ancient viral DNA and genetic elements might contribute to the risk and development of these disorders.

PET Imaging Synapses in Psychotic Disorders

Synapses are central to brain function; particularly cognitive performance. We will use Pet imaging to examine synapses in the brain of patienst with psychosis and thei relationship with cognitive function, measuring the levels of synaptic vesicle protein 2a (SV2a).

Bipolar Disorder, Depression and Schizophrenia

This series of studies examined the extent to which the genetic and environmental causes, and mechanisms, underlying bipolar disorder, depressive psychosis and schizophrenia overlap, and where they differ from each other, in terms of  genetic predisposition, environmental risk factors and brain mechanisms.
